AST2 has significant expertise in advanced manufacturing technologies and is currently developing a number of such technologies to improve efficiency and economics, particularly where precision manufacturing is required for defense and high technology applications. In collaboration with several regional organizations, AST2 lead the development of a strategy for the creation of the Center for Concurrent and Sustainable Manufacturing, a manufacturing technology incubator, in Northeast Ohio. Additional current activities include:
- Development of distributed design and manufacturing technologies
- Sensor technologies for virtual quality control and quality assurance of machined parts
AST2 is an integral member of the team that won the national competition for National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII), the Federal Government’s first pilot facility for additive manufacturing, recently established in Youngstown, Ohio. NAMII is dedicated to integrating additive manufacturing into the manufacturing fabric of the nation to increase US manufacturing competitiveness.
Prototype Design and Manufacturing
AST2, in collaboration with regional partner companies, has exceptional qualifications to design and manufacture first-of-a-kind components, equipment and systems.
AST2 developed and operates a cyber-enabled rapid prototype lab in Youngstown for remote use by secondary and post-secondary students as well as incumbent employees in conjunction with its INVENTORcloud Program for innovative STEM education and workforce development.
