AST2 has recently performed or is working on a number of projects; the following is a representative list:

Manufacturing Experimentation and Outreach (MENTOR)

Brief Description:  A subset of the Adaptive Vehicle Make (AVM) program, the project utilized AST2’s virtual collaborative learning environment technology to facilitate a distributed design and manufacturing project challenge and AST2’s INVENTORcloud STEM curriculum in high schools with the goal of cultivating the next generation of STEM professionals.

Seaport-E IDIQ

Brief Description:  AST2 has a nationwide IDIQ contract with the US Navy to provide support services in 22 functional areas including Engineering, Financial Management, and Program Management. The Navy Systems Commands (NAVSEA, NAVAIR, SPAWAR, NAVFAC, and NAVSUP), the Office of Naval Research, the United States Marine Corps, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) compete their service requirements amongst Seaport-E IDIQ multiple award contract holders.

Concurrent Sustainable Manufacturing

Brief Description:  AST2 developed the strategy and plan for the establishment of a Center for Concurrent Sustainable Manufacturing.

Rapid Integrated Sensing and Evaluation (RISE)

Brief Description:  AST2 supported the development of RISE, a technology that allows simultaneous quality control of a precision machined project on the CNC (computer numerically controlled) machine.  With AST2 leading the proposal development process, our team won a large contract from the Wright Center for Sensor Systems Engineering and secured a contract with Army Research Laboratory.

Tribometer Development

Brief Description:  AST2 engineers designed a first-of-a-kind tribometer to support material testing studies, fabricated the system in collaboration with M-7 Technologies, and installed and systemized the equipment at YSU.

Solar Panel Modules

Brief Description:  AST2 engineers designed an electrical cabling system that can be easily fabricated and assembled in the field to expedite the installation of solar thermal panels.

Customer:  Northern States Metals


Brief Description:  AST2 is working with a consortium of University and Community Colleges led by Pennsylvania College of Technology, to design equipment and develop training for workers in the shale gas and oil industry.  AST2 technology was a key feature of the proposal in getting this effort funded through a DOL grant.

National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII)

Brief Description:  AST2 is on the Board of Governance of NAMII and is working with NAMII to research and develop industrial applications for 3D printing and other additive manufacturing processes as key components of the US and military industrial base manufacturing infrastructure.

Youngstown Business Incubator (YBI)

Brief Description:  AST2 provided operational management and development services for this award-winning informational technologies incubator during senior leadership transition.

Portage County Development Board

Brief Description:  AST2 led strategic planning for development of this new non-profit for economic and community development. During implementation and staffing stage, AST2 provided economic and workforce development expertise and consulting services.
